Advanced MRI Technology Detects Breast Cancer in High-Risk Women

Omaha, Neb. (June 10, 2009) – In 2007, actress Christina Applegate was diagnosed with breast cancer after her doctor recommended she undergo an MRI exam in addition to her regular mammogram. She credits that MRI exam with saving her life.

A MRI exam has been shown to be useful in detecting breast cancer and other breast abnormalities that often are missed in traditional mammography. The American Cancer Society recommends that women at high risk for developing breast cancer undergo an MRI exam in addition to their regular mammogram every year. The combination of the two exams gives doctors a better chance of finding breast cancer early. The earlier breast cancer is found, the easier it is to treat and the greater the chance for survival.

With advanced breast MRI imaging technology from Siemens Medical Solutions, physicians are able to provide patients with a powerful ally in the early detection of breast cancer. This technology allows faster exams with reduced radiation dose and clearer images.

The following local experts are available to discuss the patient care advantages of breast MRI technology:

  • Kyle Salem, Ph.D, Vice President of Product Strategy at Cassling
  • Aaron Flammang, MRI Product Sales Executive, Siemens Healthcare
