Transition to Digital X-Ray Fueled by Declining Medicare Reimbursement

Healthcare providers are once again being encouraged by Congress to update their imaging technology in an effort to reduce care costs and improve care quality and delivery.

Beginning January 2017, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will enforce new reimbursement penalties on all outpatient Medicare eligible X-rays performed on film-based systems. In 2018, the penalty expands to include computed radiography (CR).
