Celebrating Another Year of Imaging Developments

by Mike Cassling on Dec 21, 2015

In reflecting on 2015, the Cassling team has decided that we can sum up our year in one word: grateful. We’re grateful for our customers, colleagues and loved ones, but we’re also grateful for the continued innovations happening in radiology. There is a great sense of pride among us to be part of an industry that uses technology to improve patient care and outcomes.

There are many milestones from 2015 to celebrate, but here are a few that we’re most thankful for:

  • Low-dose CT (LDCT) Lung Cancer Screenings. In February, we learned that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services issued its final ruling to cover the cost of LDCT lung cancer screenings for high-risk Medicare patients. In November, The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Siemens Healthcare’s SOMATOM CT systems for LDCT lung cancer screenings. As an Advanced Partner of Siemens Healthcare, we are incredibly proud to bring this technology to our customers to help detect cancer at its earliest, most treatable stage.

  • FDA Approval of Breast Tomosynthesis Option for Siemens Mammography Platform. The FDA approved the breast tomosynthesis add-on option for Siemens Healthcare’s MAMMOMAT Inspiration digital mammography platform. This new technology allows physicians and patients to feel confident by improving the early stage detection rate for breast cancer and reducing unnecessary recalls or false positives.

To show Cassling’s commitment to women’s health, we hosted our first Investing In Her educational seminar this summer. The event focused on women’s health technology and offered CE credits to attendees—and we’re pleased to offer this event again in 2016.

  • Siemens Introduces ACUSON P500 Portable Ultrasound. In October, Siemens announced its new ACUSON P500 portable ultrasound for faster imaging. This easy-to-use, hand carried ultrasound is ideal for use in the emergency department. Later that month, Cassling brought advanced ultrasound systems directly to our customers during our Ultrasound Roadshow. Many of you attended events in Coralville, Omaha and Topeka to see equipment first-hand and to learn how ultrasound can drive down health-care costs.

If 2015 is any indication of what the New Year has in store, I can’t help but feel optimistic. I know there will be new cutting-edge technologies that will improve the field of medicine. I know the team at Cassling will continue to do all we can to strengthen community health care, and I know our customers will continue to provide outstanding patient care.
