The History of Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month
Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month (MUAM) was first established in 1991 as Sonography Awareness Week and eventually grew into a month-long celebration hosted every October. During this time, hospitals and imaging department leaders honor the impact and contributions that sonographers make in healthcare every day. The goal is to educate others on the importance of ultrasound, celebrate professionals in the field and inspire students to join the field.
Cassling's 2026 Theme for Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month
Since 2018, Cassling has put together a themed campaign, paired with artwork and a slogan, to celebrate Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month with style. This year, we’re excited to announce that our 2026 theme for Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month is: Celebrating the Art of Sonography.
Ultrasound is often described in technical terms like frequency, resolution, doppler modes, image quality. But anyone who has watched a skilled sonographer work knows there’s something more happening. There’s intuition and a practiced eye that can find what others might miss. The blend of science, skill and human touch feels, in many ways, like art.
Sonographers bring artistry to every exam: the angle of the transducer, the precision of the sweep and the ability to stay calm and reassuring while capturing the perfect image.
