2022 Bob Cassling Scholarship Winners Announced

The 2022 Bob Cassling Memorial Scholarships have been awarded.

“We created these scholarships to support Cassling’s mission to strengthen community healthcare,” said Cassling CEO Mike Cassling, “We believe that knowledge is strength. The healthcare field is constantly growing and changing, and continued education is critical to stay ahead of the game. We are proud to support radiology professionals and their aspirations for higher education.”

Through a partnership with the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT), Cassling offers two $4,000 scholarships annually to honor founder Bob Cassling and support radiologic technologists in rural areas in their pursuit of higher education.

This year, the scholarships were awarded to Crystal Henderson, R.T.(R), and Darren Wells, R.T.(R)(ARRT).

Henderson is the acting clinical coordinator/instructor of radiography at Owensboro Community College. She balances her role as an educator with taking classes to further her own education.

“I applied hoping that my determination and love for teaching radiography would shine through,” Henderson said. “With the award that the Bob Cassling Memorial Scholarship entails, I will be able to focus on my classes, my career, and essentially, my dreams.”

Henderson is looking forward to nurturing her passion for radiography and education.

Wells is a full-time instructor at the Regional West Medical Center School of Radiologic Technology. Wells is also pursuing a Masters of Health Professions Teaching and Technology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center Graduate Studies.

“I believe in continued education to better oneself,” he said. “This degree will help me in delivering better instruction to my students in my current instructor position.”

A master degree will make Wells eligible for a promotion in his current line of work and qualify him to teach at the university level should either opportunity arise.

“Crystal and Darren are exceptional leaders who demonstrate my father’s values in more ways than one,” said Cassling. “By furthering their own education while also passing their knowledge on to others, Crystal and Darren are inspiring the next generation of medical imaging professionals to strive for excellence.”
