Veterans Day recognizes the men and women who have served our country, but it’s also a chance to celebrate the ways they continue to make a difference in their communities.
Cassling’s late founder Bob Cassling was a U.S. Air Force veteran (pictured) and navigator during the Korean War, and when he founded Cassling Diagnostic Imaging in 1984, his philosophy was simple: superior customer service always comes first.
More than 40 years later, that same principle continues to influence Cassling and its employees. We're proud to have many veterans on our team whose commitment to service extends well beyond their military careers. Their dedication, adaptability and mission-driven mindset help strengthen our team and support healthcare organizations across the Midwest.
A Commitment to Service That Endures
Nearly one-quarter of Cassling’s entire workforce, and one-third of our service team, have served in our nation’s armed forces. The transition from military service to civilian careers often means applying years of valuable experience in new ways. Our veteran employees contribute to every area of our organization and help customers navigate challenges, keep imaging technology running at its peak, build strong relationships and work together to advance our mission of improving patient care.
In healthcare, many of the qualities developed through military service remain just as important in civilian settings:
- Leadership in high-pressure situations
- Effective teamwork and communication
- Adaptability during change
- Technical expertise and problem-solving
- A commitment to serving others
These strengths not only strengthen our workforce but also support the hospitals, patients and providers that rely on us to keep healthcare moving forward.

“The military taught me early on, from a leadership perspective, that you can’t sweat the small stuff,” said Josh Gahn, a Cassling project manager for the University of Iowa who served in the Air Force for 10 years (pictured). “I think a mission-oriented mindset is something that a lot of soldiers have, and it can really help you in your daily life in whatever job you have.”
Supporting Better Experiences for Patients and Providers
Behind every service visit and customer interaction is a shared goal: helping healthcare professionals deliver exceptional patient care.
For Nate Pierson, a former Air Force aircraft electrician and current Cassling Field Service Engineer who maintains New West Sports Medicine’s x-ray equipment, maintaining life-saving imaging equipment was seamless.
“In the military, lives are on the line. And in this job, that happens too,” said Nate. “Patient lives are affected if we don’t have machines working.”

Robin Brabec, the MRI lead at New West Sports Medicine and an Air Force veteran herself, found that her strong relationship with Nate and Cassling came naturally.
“When you’re in the military, you learn how to respect everybody because you’re there for a shared purpose,” said Robin. “Cassling has the utmost respect here. They’re professional, they’re on time, they’re [respectful]. They’re like family.”
While patients may never meet many of the professionals working behind the scenes, the contributions of veteran employees help create positive impacts that extend throughout the healthcare experience.
Thank You for Your Service
This Veterans Day, we honor the veterans who are part of the Cassling family and the countless veterans serving their communities across the country.
“I loved the time that I served in the military,” said Josh. “And I'll always be proud of that. But I really appreciate Cassling and the opportunity to be on a winning team again and to be able to provide services that really matter to people. And I'm grateful for that.”
Thank you, veterans, for your sacrifices, your leadership and your continued commitment to serving others. We are grateful for everything you bring to our team and proud to celebrate the impact you make every day.
