Overview:

The greatest threat to imaging leadership isn’t strategy, staffing or technology; it’s physiology. High-acuity imaging environments demand rapid decision-making, emotional steadiness and sustained clarity under pressure, yet most leadership training ignores the biological forces that undermine performance. Chronic stress, disrupted sleep, unstable glucose, endocrine strain and cognitive overload directly impair executive function, driving burnout, conflict, errors and turnover.

This session introduces “Leadership Vital Signs”, an evidence-based framework transforming productivity and resilience by aligning leaders with the biological systems that support high-stakes decision-making. Through the lens of metabolic science and decades of leadership in emergency medicine, Dr. Gutman will help attendees learn why physiology, not mindset, is the foundation of effective leadership.

Participants will leave with practical, immediately deployable strategies to stabilize stress hormones, optimize cognitive function, improve team dynamics and embed performance-sustaining habits into imaging departments. Because leaders don’t rise to the level of their goals; they fall to the level of their physiology.

Learning Objectives

1.

Identify physiologic warning signs (stress, sleep disruption, metabolic instability) that impair decision-making, emotional regulation and leadership performance in high-acuity imaging environments

2.

Apply physiology-based micro-interventions to stabilize cognitive function, reduce decision fatigue and improve clarity under operational pressure

3.

Integrate biologic principles into leadership practices, including scheduling, recovery and communication, to reduce burnout, conflict and turnover within imaging teams

Gutman Headshot

Amy Gutman, MD, FACEP
Emergency Physician Executive Advisor, CEO of ToughLoveMD

Amy Gutman, MD, FACEP, is an emergency physician, author and international keynote speaker hired by healthcare organizations to strengthen executive decision quality, workforce stability and operational reliability in high-acuity environments. She is the author of the best-selling “Powerhouse Living: Lead Your Life Like a Resuscitation”, a TEDx speaker and the author of multiple research publications. With more than 35 years on the front lines of emergency medicine, Dr. Gutman brings deep clinical credibility and systems-level insight from settings where precision, speed and judgment directly affect outcomes.

Organizations engage her to identify physiologic and cognitive risk factors that undermine leadership performance and to implement biology-based strategies that stabilize clarity, emotional regulation and decision-making under pressure. Dr. Gutman translates research on stress physiology, sleep science, metabolic health and cognitive performance into practical leadership tools executives can deploy immediately. Her work reframes human health not as a wellness initiative but as critical performance infrastructure that influences safety, throughput, retention and enterprise risk.
